ABOUT
WITH A NAME LIKE HULA, WE MUST BE SURFERS FROM HAWAII, RIGHT?
Actually, as fun as that sounds, Hula is the combination of the first two letters of our founders’ last names: Chris Hutto and Taylor Landing. The duo first met as coworkers, which grew into a friendship and now, they’re business partners and owners of Hula.
Today, this 24/7/365 operation is dedicated to full-scale shipping and logistics solutions. Our vast transportation services range from full truckload to LTL, pop-up fleets, specialized government/military deliveries, and beyond. In addition, our growing logistics operations include a new drop yard conveniently located just 100 yards from the Georgia Port Authority’s Ocean Terminal.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
In 2010, Taylor was working on completing his degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. Chris was working as Branch Manager for a transportation broker in Savannah, Georgia, and looking for an intern.
Taylor worked for Chris part time between his classes for two years then, after graduation, Taylor came on full time with Chris. Within six months, Chris got the opportunity to open an office for another company and asked Taylor, “Hey, do you want to venture out and open a new office?” Taylor said, “yes” and the two grew the business to $25 million in revenue in just two short years. When that company went public, Chris and Taylor were approached to grow a new company where they further honed their skills, sharpened their expertise, and grew relationships for more than seven years. After much thought, Chris and Taylor made plans to start something of their own, and in April of 2023, Hula Transportation began.
When he’s not at work moving freight on land, you’ll find Chris on the water – in a boat, not on a surfboard (at least not yet). Chris and his wife, Dina, have been married since 2007 and stay busy with their youngest daughter’s travel volleyball and lacrosse teams. Their oldest daughter is currently working as a surgical tech, studying to be a nurse practitioner.
Taylor and his wife, Leslie, married in 2014 and have two little girls. In his downtime, as Taylor puts it, “Chris lives on the water, I live on grass” – the kind of grass with sand traps, cart paths, and 18 holes (just making sure you didn’t think he was making grass hula skirts – though with Taylor – one day, he just might).
When asked what their experience has taught them and how they’re making Hula Transportation different, they summed it up like this:
“We thrive on our relationships with our customers AND our carriers – it takes both to make it happen.”
And they can’t wait to ride the wave of success with you (we had to get at least one surfer pun in there, right?).
